EDGAR RICE
BURROUGHS
TWO COLLECTOR'S ITEMS
There is a lot I could say about these two
books and their autographs, all of which would be true, but
unprovable. Like: I was told by his secretary that
these were the last books ERB signed. [Of course no
documentation concerning that. They were signed within
weeks or months of his death--I believe he was in the
hospital when he did sign them, though memory might have
clouded that detail.]
The important thing, though, is
that they are signed by both ERB and his son, the
illustrator of the two books, John Coleman Burroughs.
[It was some time after ERB's death that his son agreed to
sign these two books, which his father had signed. I
was at the ERB,Inc offices at the time, when I met John
Coleman Burroughs--a very nice fella indeed.] I doubt
there are very many Burroughs books with the double
signature around. Because of this fact, it makes these
two books rare items, indeed. I have considered it
only fair to suggest a price which reflects this fact rather
than the popularity of either of these first editions [or
even their condition, which is fairly close to mint].
Regardless of all that: it
is the autographs that count!

I have kept them as the final link to a collection
I built in my teens, in and around the late 1940's.
I've treasured them and wish to make certain they are turned
over to somebody who will equally value these books.
Thusly, having consulted some valued experts in the field,
I've come up with the following suggested price:
$2200 for each book.

Green
Toad,
Books
(Both are
in what I would be considered pretty good + condition--near
mint. There are some minor stains and imperfections on the
LoG jacket spine. A signed letter will be offered to
the buyer concerning the information given on this page
insofar as my understanding that these were probably the
last books ERB signed, a few weeks before his death .
[He died Sunday, March 19, 1950, at home in Encino,
California, just miles from Tarzana,] Mildred Jenson,
ERB's long-time secretary told me they were the last he
signed.)
